So after ripping my heart out twice in a row, I bought Jillian Dodd's third and final book. It did not disappoint. I do have some comments and questions about the book.1. Lori. I felt like I really related to her in That Boy, and then her character started going downhill. She became moody and I honestly hated her by the end of That Baby. Even in the epilogue she still seemed shady and awful.2. The TEARS. You dont have a soul if you didnt cry by the end of That Baby. I didnt see JJ's crash coming and the tears came HARD. I was mostly in shock until Phillip and Danny started remembering her and I realized what had happened. I see a lot of people relating to what Jillian said in the Acknowledgements about this reflecting on her own experience, but as a 15 year old , I can relate as well as others.3. I found That Boy in 2013, and then bought That Wedding and That Baby in 2018. I LOVED this series, even having read That Boy earlier in life. I thought this was a really good end to this trilogy. Although a very surprising twist at the end that had me in tears. The book starts off very lighthearted and cute, but gets very dark in an instant and you are completely unsure how it will turn out. I won't give away any spoilers but there is a happy ending and the end is worth the hardship that comes before it. I really ended up loving Jayden and Phillip's relationship and agreed with the author's view that they were meant to be. Better than Danny who really did some things here that were quite appalling in my opinion and made me like him less as a character.The reason why this book isn't getting five stars is because of what happened to Lori, it is still a mystery to me why such a likable character would suddenly do a 180 and completely alter her personality. By the second half of the book she was awful and there was no real explanation for it. Something more serious was going on with her, but it is never explored or explained. She suddenly at the very end bursts into tears and tells Danny that she is sorry and will apologize to Jayden. But we never actually see the apology happen and by the epilogue, which goes several years into the future, all relationships are healed but you can't understand why. Danny goes from wanting a divorce and falling in love with someone else to accepting Lori's apology and then a jump 10 years later where they are living happily ever after. I didn't buy it or that everyone easily forgave Lori for her actions and moved on seamlessly, if they did we should have at least seen it or gotten some explanation of its occurrence, and we got neither. During the course of this part of the story, Danny made some really key points of why he was interested in Lori at first and what was lacking in their relationship later on after they married. I really thought they were going to end up divorced and it would have made sense. In the end, I definitely felt like Danny and Lori didn't belong together. It was a definite flaw in this story which is the reason for the four stars but not enough to deter my interest in reading it and finding out about Jayden and Phillip's happily ever after.Beyond the issue with Lori, I was engaged in Jayden and Phillip's relationship and their wait for their baby. Some definite funny moments, e.g., the gnome, and some also very poignant and heartfelt moments, e.g. their letters to their unborn baby. What I like the most about Jayden and Phillip's relationship is that they are flawed but likable characters and the portrayal was realistic. You can love each other to death but still have disagreements or really be frustrated with one another. I liked that the author didn't go with some unrealistic situation where there is a misunderstanding that leads to an abrupt break up with no explanation and then they don't talk again for months or years. Here they have problems that come up but they work through them which is what happens in a real relationship and I found that refreshing to read.
